Small businesses kind of have it rough.

Oftentimes, as a business owner, you want to do everything yourself, and make sure that the business or brand you put out into the world is 100% your vision. This is totally understandable, and something I struggle with also at Hyped.

But you know what? I’m proud to admit that I’m absolutely hopeless with taxes.

Like, embarrassingly bad.

And yeah, I’m proud to admit it.

That might seem kind of crazy to you – why admit you’re bad at something to your friends, followers, current and potential clients? Doesn’t that seem like a bad idea?

No. I don’t think it is.

You see, nobody is hiring me because I’m good at my taxes. Nobody requires me to be proficient, or even above average at maths (despite what high school teachers and friends might have told me).

I don’t need to understand taxes because I’m being hired for something completely unrelated – social media and photography.

So I happily accept help with it – there’s no point in spending my time trying to figure out the enigma that is NZ taxes, just as there’s no point in an accountant spending her time trying to figure out the enigma that is Facebook pixels.

We all have something we’re good at – and we should celebrate it. So when you ask yourself whether you need small business social media management, you should really be asking yourself – is small business social media management something you understand? Something you have time for? Something you want to learn or make time for?

Nobody became a business owner to spend their time doing what they hate. There are plenty of reasons one becomes a business owner, but we’re confident when we say that’s not one of them.

So why not spend less time trying to figure out how to create and implement a successful small business social media strategy – and more time doing what you love?
