Instagram Slideshow is a game changer, and here’s how to use it!
Okay… Vaguely click-baity title, we apologise. Hopefully you don’t put us down with fake news and Buzzfeed, but we won’t blame you if you do.
Anyway.
By now you’ve most likely seen or heard of the new Instagram Slideshow update where you can post multiple photos in the same post – people are taking to it so quickly, in fact, it even looks like they’re taking to it faster, and more eagerly than other updates.
This Instagram Slideshow update isn’t just an opportunity for you to pick more than one bangin’ selfie for your ‘gram without having your feed messed up. While that’s how many people have been using it so far, that’s not why we’re calling it a game changer!
A game changer has to be something that drastically alters or improves our engagement with, or usage of social media, and in this situation we think it goes a lot further beyond the selfie-slideshow.
While the likes of Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez are mostly using it to add some extra selfies in there, it’s a little closer to home where we see social moguls using this update to its true power.
Our favourite example is Simone Anderson – you may know her as Simone’s Journey to Health – an Instagram/Facebook/Youtuber who shot to fame through her amazing, and inspiring fitness journey. While her focus now has shifted ever so slightly into the wider genre of lifestyle blogging, her social power continues to grow as she has the opportunity to share her awesome style, makeup, and mouth-watering cheeseboards to audiences around the world. She’s no idiot either (not that we ever thought she was), and is quick to understand how updates, new features, and social trends can be utilised on her own platforms. Exhibit A being the slideshow update.
Oftentimes on a night out we want people to see how good our face, hair, and makeup looks, but also our outfit – and Simone’s figured out this new Instagram Slideshow update can tick all of the boxes! In the post below the first image is a simple face shot to give you the details, but if you swipe left you get to see how awesome her outfit is too! For those focused on how their feed looks put together, this is a great way to get that extra content out there, while keeping the flow of your page looking varied and exciting.
We also think this update will be great for the fitness industry in particular, as it’s a powerful tool to show off transformations. You can put the best photo forward, but give everyone the opportunity to see the before picture, or a picture of you roughing it at the gym, if they just swipe left to see the next picture!
It can also be utilised in a more extended content way, because it allows you to post up to 10 images at once. We’re thinking posts like “a day in the life” which shows what you eat/do in the day. We’re thinking, makeup tutorials that don’t rely on videos. We’re thinking telling a story, or letting your poetic mind run wild. This update is all about adding narratives to our already pristine, and well thought out digital galleries – why not do something fun with it?
In fact, even us here at Hyped are using the update ourselves to get creative – with photography of course! One of our favourite parts of editing photos is to see what a crazy difference is made from the original – but collages on Instagram aren’t always our thing. Plus, this means that our unedited, original image can be there for everyone to see – only if they swipe past the final, edited image first!
